Pianist Youn-Hee Bang, a native of Korea, garnered much acclaim from
international audiences and critics alike for her impressive combination of virtuosic
technique and colorful musicality. Being the first recipient of Alicia de Larrocha
Scholarship and being highly praised by the legendary pianist, Alicia de Larrocha
who wrote to Bang; “Youn-Hee, with or without competitions, You will be a
fantastic artist!.”
Youn-Hee began her piano studies at age five and attended Yewon School of
Music and Arts. She graduated from Sungshin Women’s University with highest
honors and continued her studies with Alfons Kontarsky in Salzburg, Austria.
Then, she came to the United States and studied with Eduardo Delgado and Philip
Kawin. Currently, she is candidate for the DMA degree at the State University of
New York at Stony Brook, which offered her a full-tuition scholarship to pursue her
degree.
Her numerous awards include high honors at the Missouri Southern
International Piano Competition, the first prize and the best performance award of
the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, first prize at the CPMTA
(California Professional Music Teachers Association) Sonata Competition, grand
prize at the Music Associates Performance Award Competition in Southern
California and the National Music Competition for Young Students in S. Korea, and
prizes at the International Peninsula Young Artist Music Festival Competition,
Carmel Piano Competition and Samik Piano Competition.
Performing with orchestras throughout Europe, the United States and S. Korea,
Ms. Bang has appeared with the International Chamber Ensemble of Rome,
L'orchestra de Perugia, NewYork Symphony Orchestra, and Gahng-Nahm
Symphny in Korea. In addition, her solo engagements have presented her at such
venues as the Seoul Arts Center, Se-Jong Art Center (in S. Korea), the Wiener Saal (in
Austria), and the City Hall (in Andora, Spain). Among her Korean teachers, Young-
Joo Hong, Gahng-Soon Lee, and Bo-Mee Ihm, and she has been coached by Alicia
de Larrocha, Dina Yoffe, Natalia Trull, Danielle Epstein, Norma Fisher, Igor Kipnis,
Louis Lortie, Seimour Berstein, and Oxana Yablonskaya among others.
